Bicycle shopping

André and I went to the Velobörsen at Helvitiaplatz in Zürich on Saturday. This is like a big market for bikes. Some new ones but mostly second hand. André was looking for a bike for me. I think what he wants he won't find there. His of course needs to be a super fancy bike from a proper bike shop... But I don't want anything fancy. I actually wanted what André likes to call a 'Marybell' bike. A nice comfortable one where my toes can reach the ground easily and my arms won't get sore from leaning so way forward. And I want a bell and a basket for my shopping. André doesn't agree. He feels I need a proper mountain bike so I can go up and down the mountains with him. One with shocks so I can also go over the big boulders and tree stumps after him. Hahaha! I can just imagine myself now bouncing along behind him down the mountain!

Anyway we didn't buy anything. I think we will go again to the next one in three weeks time. So here's some pictures of the bicycle market in Zürich.

We walked around some more in Zürich after leaving the Velobörsen and passed a shop with this in the window (for my South African readers!)

I don't know WHY this was in the window. It looked like a normal clothing store inside, but only with mens clothes and I don't think this was the name of the shop because there was another name too. Perhaps they import some things from China via South Africa?? I think it has something to do with those SA flag coloured trunks stacked there... Oh and did you notice they spelt colours incorrectly if they're trying to be South African! (Spelling it the American way.)

Oh and another one for everyone back home, I bought some South African grapes! They were really good quality like all the other fruit and vegetables are. Not sweet hanepoot which I like best but still good. If you look carefully you can see it says Südafrika. Today they had grapes from India. They always tell you where it's from. Interesting.

Oh, I bought the green grapes, there were green ones too from SA.

  2. Ag dankie! :-)

Ek dink die kat gaan een van die dae nog groter smile as die kar eers syne is! Het vandag die finale reelings vir die koop begin tref.
Dit sal darem lekker wees om bietjie in 'n kar te kan rondry.
Ek dink ek moet solank 'n padkaart gaan koop!

  3. Oh, I dream of having a "Marybell" bicycle as well. I've seen them around, and they are cute! But first up, I'll need to learn to cycle, properly.

Too bad this Veloboersen had nothing for you, but still glad you guys went to check it out!

  4. Could you let me know the date of the next bike market? I bought a bike at the Brocki but made the silly mistake of "fitting" it to my size while the tires were deflated. Now I realize it's too big for me. Been riding it for months but husband is getting tired of me complaining about stopping on my big bike.
