After having a rest day yesterday I felt we should get back onto the bike again today. It was raining on and off this morning but being used to the way the weather can be in England I reckoned it might go either way so we might as well go for a ride and hope for the best. Well, we didn't get the best weather in the end. It was pretty cold, around 10C most of the way and very wet and rainy. We drove up this hill called Samerberg where you have a lovely view over the Chiemsee, but it rained when we stopped there so we didn't even take off our helmets. At least we stay dry in all our bike gear. We took a few photos and video and then made our way back home, this time via the motorway as we just wanted to get back to a warm house.
That's the Chiemsee you see in the distance.
Even though cold and wet it was still good to get out on the bike again.
The rest of the afternoon we relaxed at home and this evening I went with mom and Juergen to their dance class- they do ballroom dancing every Thursday. It made me want to do dancing again, but Andre's just not interested!
Day 6: 134 miles Eching - Chiemsee

Are you keeping up?
I'm really making up for the past year's infrequent blogging! I do sometimes miss the time when I was able to blog every day. Then I had not only the time but also things to write about when moving countries and continents made for some interesting posts.
Just showing you our dinner tonight. We first had Flammkuchen right before leaving Switzerland. I've had it a couple of times again since and have said for a while now that I must find a recipe and try and make it myself. So when my mom asked if we wanted to have some tonight I was eager to see what the recipe is like. It turns out it's so similar to our pizza base recipe that if I make it at home myself I'll just use our usual pizza base recipe and then roll it out much thinner and use Flammkuchen type toppings.
Basically the Flammkuchen is lighter, not as filling as it has less toppings and no cheese really. Well at least not the ones I've had before. We did make some tonight with a little cheese too. The main thing is that it has creme freche on the base instead of a tomato base.
Juergen also made us Hugos- elderberry syrup, sparkling wine and topped up with mineral water with mint and lemon. Yum!

Non riding day in Eching
The rest of our afternoon has been very relaxing compared to the previous few days.
Andre and I went for a walk around the dam behind the house here and mom met us half way when she came home from work a bit earlier.
While mom and I are making Flammkuchen for dinner the boys are playing in the garden with their toys!
Day 5: still zero miles

Day 5: Thai massages
My mom made appointments for us all to go for massages at a Thai wellness spa this afternoon. It was sooo good! We all felt amazing afterwards, really relaxed. Andre is actually sleeping now, see:
Before the massage you get a cup of sweet Thai tea and a large wooden bowl filled with warm water and flower petals to soak your feet in.
After drying your feet for you and receiving a pair of slippers you get taken to lie down on the low massage bed to begin your relaxing massage, starting with your feet and ending with the therapist stretching your body in all directions!
We might just do this again before leaving!

Nurburgring photos
Yes sorry if you're getting bored of me going on about the Nurburgring but so far (and I think it will still be by the end of our trip) it has been the highlight of our trip. Of course seeing mum and Juergen is a big highlight too but the ring was just something different.
I'm writing this post to show you some more photos. I told you before that we stayed at a guest house -Sliders- and there we also met Ross. Originally from South Africa, now living in London, he flies out to some airport in Germany (I forgot which one exactly) where he then picks up his motorbike which he leaves there and rides to Sliders Guesthouse. He does this every weekend during the season. He then spends his days by the Nurburgring taking photos. You can visit his website nurburgring-photos.com
Brendan was so kind to email us these two photos which Ross took.
I see his website is currently being upgraded but I'm looking forward to visiting it later to see his other photos.
Visiting the Nurburgring is definitely something you've got to do. We recommend you stay with Bren at Sliders and find out whether he can take you around the ring. Then make sure you check out Ross' photos and see if he managed to get you on camera, or ask beforehand.

Day 4: Eching
We left Heidelberg after breakfast at the hotel. It was again around 10am when we finally got on the bike. 3 1/2 hours and about 220miles, but with rest stops in between we arrived at 3pm.
It's a long long road!
We went straight to my Mom and Juergen's office. It's my mom's birthday today so we had coffee and cake with them at the office and then mom came home with us.
My mom was so kind to have a whole new little wardrobe ready here for me! She knew we couldn't pack much and would want to put everything in the wash once we get here so she ordered me some things. What a lovely treat!!
We relaxed with mom at home until Juergen came home and then went to visit his parents who also live in Eching. We had a glass of champagne with them and then went out to dinner. Andre chose German food above Indian- that rarely happens! He again had a veal schnitzel of course!
(Simone, Ma was busy sending you a message here!)
Tomorrow we want to go for a massage and then we need to have a look at the maps and decide how long we're staying here and where to next.
Day 4: 220 miles Heidelberg - Eching
Time on the road: 9.50 am - 3.00 pm

Day 3: Heidelberg photos
As promised here are the photos now from our drive to Heidelberg, Germany and our evening there.
A quick rest stop along the Mosel river. Beautiful wine lands area.
Another stop alone the road for a snack.
And we've made it to a hotel in Heidelberg!
Wandering around the old part of the city.
Amazing view of a castle on the hill.
Ahead are the old gates where you would enter the city through.
A happy Andre with his schnitzel!
